So how was this scoop obtained? Well it turns out, all we had to do was ask!
2G Nexus 7
A canny Nexus fan decided the best way to pump ASUS for information on the 2nd gen Nexus tablet was simply to ask. Who said journalism was tough?
As can be seen on these screenshots shared here, Google+ user Tim P simply asked the ASUS online support channel when the ASUS K009 was due for release.
Apparently we can expect the new model towards the end of July.
The rep also posted up the following specs for the Nexus 7.2, however they were careful to say that this is an unconfirmed specification:
- 7 inch LED with 1980 * 1200 resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Quad Core CPU / Snapdragon APQ8064 CPU
- 2GB RAM
- 32GB internal storage
- 5Mpx rear camera
- 1.2Mpx front camera
- Android 4.3
- 4000 mAh battery
- Wifi a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth 4.0
- NFC enabled
- LTE / WCDMA / GSM
Good to see the improved screen, front camera and extra CPU power, but users will be disappointed at the absence of an SD card slot. The big questions remain, how much will the new Nexus 7 cost and what’s it going to look like?
Is this spec a big enough jump to convince existing owners to upgrade? I don’t think so, but would be interested to hear if you disagree? I think I’ll be waiting for the 3rd generation Nexus tablet!
